Dr. Virginia DeRoma is a licensed clinical psychologist who serves children, families and adults. She has over two decades of experience in therapy and utilizes a relational approach to helping others develop coping skills, emphasizing the need for establishing healthy boundaries and attachments in interpersonal relationships. Dr. DeRoma is committed to empowering individuals to establish a sense of belonging in and personal control over their environment by helping them to explore core motivations, communication patterns, and identity issues. Dr. DeRoma attempts to help families view the challenges and conflicts they experience as necessary stressors that can help each member learns skills to successfully navigate through important life tasks.
Dr. DeRoma completed her post-doctoral training at the VA Medical Center in Biloxi, Mississippi. In addition to establishing services in the private practice arena, she served as the coordinator of services for women's mental health at the medical center. She has held a position as Clinical Director of services for the Carolina Youth Development Center and served as a full-time faculty member at The Citadel and Georgia Southern University, where she trained master and doctoral level students to work with families.
Dr. DeRoma enjoys helping families to successfully deal with issues related to anger management and self-control, school-related academic and behavioral problems, intimacy, defiance, trauma, and emotional issues (anxiety, depression). Published in the field of family therapy, she has helped both individuals and families who participate in therapy to benefit from her expertise.
