Dr. Amie Allain

Dr. Amie Allain is a licensed psychologist who specializes in working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families. Licensed in Louisiana, she recently relocated to Virginia and is in the licensure process. Dr. Allain enjoys working with clients seeking a supportive environment for addressing many needs, including: anxiety and mood concerns, identity development, self-esteem, women's issues, family and peer relationships, disruptive/oppositional behaviors and parent training, as well as psychological and psychoeducational testing.

Dr. Allain received her doctoral degree (Ph.D.) from the APA-accredited Counseling Psychology program at the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. Previously, she earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University and a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. She completed an APA -accredited pre-doctoral internship at Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District in Houston, Texas. Throughout her graduate training, Dr. Allain provided assessment and therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and adults in a multitude of settings, including Houston-area private practices, Texas Children's Hospital, Northwest Community Clinic, the University of Houston's Counseling and Psychological Services, Houston Independent School District, and Small Steps Nurturing Center.

Therapeutically, Dr. Allain believes that personal growth is best gained through a supportive relationship which fosters insight, acknowledges and accepts personal strengths and areas of growth, and encourages the acquisition of necessary coping and problem-solving skills. As such, Dr. Allain's therapeutic style involves aspects of cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal therapies within a relational and family-systems context. In addition, Dr. Allain strives to empower individuals to understand and utilize his or her own personal strengths in order to maximize academic experiences. To that end, she strives to conduct comprehensive psychological and psycho-educational assessments which are accessible and readable to the family, are insight-oriented, and offer clear suggestions and recommendations from a strengths-based perspective.

Outside of the office, Dr. Allain enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, and crafting. She has a beautiful daughter, loves her dog Sara, enjoys home renovation projects with her husband, and is a proud member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie family.
